Easy to understand and short instructional videos which we supply for free with the product explain how to install the Expert Advisor and how to back test and optimise.

THE EDGE was developed over 15 years ago as a mechanical trading tool by famous US trader and educator Jerry Simmons of the Advanced Trading Workshop USA. Ever since, and in essentially unchanged form, it has been used daily by Jerry and many traders in the US and internationally. It has been a reliable, consistent and robust performer day-in-day-out in producing money for those fortunate enough to own it and operate it in accordance with the parameters.

However, so far it has only been available for implementation on the TradeStation and NinjaTrader platforms. For the first time, and as a world exclusive, we are making it available to MetaTrader users.

Using THE EDGE Expert Advisor, you will get access to:
  • Superior back testing and optimising methods not available to you as MetaTrader 4 user
  • Range Charts, Volume Charts, Renko Charts, Kagi Charts, PointAndFigure Charts, Tick Charts plus several time-based charts not available in MetaTrader 4 such as 3 minute charts, 10 minute charts, in fact, one can create a chart for any discrete number of minutes

Expert Advisor

"Expert Advisor" is the term used by MetaTrader. NinjaTrader uses the term "Strategy" for the same thing. Other platforms use yet other names for the same thing.

An "Expert Advisor" is a customisable software programme which will trade a specific financial instrument such as for example crude oil futures, or the EURUSD forex pair, for you and enter trades either automatically, manage them automatically in accordance with parameters which you have pre-set as the user and exit them automatically. However, THE EDGE Expert Adviser allows you, if you prefer, to stay in control at all times and intervene, either by refusing to take a specific trade proposed by the Expert Advisor, or change parameters such as Target(s) and Stop(s) on the fly, i.e. even during a trade already in course.

You can either use our recommended settings for configuring the Expert Advisor, or experiment and find your own optimal settings by using the extensive facilities of the NinjaTrader Strategy Analizer or the NinjaTrader Optimizer.
Trading Platform

What's a trading platform? It's again a piece of software which connects you real-time, via the internet, to your broker's account and allows you to enter, manage and exit futures, securities, options and forex trades.
Back Test

MetaTrader 4 has a feature called "Strategy Tester"; it offers some facilities to test an Expert Advisor. However, NinjaTrader has what we think are far superior back testing facilities (Control Center\File\New\StrategyAnalyzer). That tool allows comprehensive testing of "what if" scenarios: "What if I had run this strategy from 1/1/11 (as an example) until today on real price data?" "What would have been the $ profit or loss, what would have been the Profit Factor, what would be the maximum drawdown? What would the Equity Curve have looked like?"
Optimiser

MetaTrader 4 does not provide optimising facilities. NinjaTrader, however, provides two optimising methods: the Default and a Genetic Algorithm.

The Default method fine tunes parameters from a list by testing a range of values through iterative tests. It determines the parameters which lead to optimal results based on the criterion the person running the optimisation has chosen as the key (for example: maximum Profit Factor, or minimum drawdown, etc.).

The Genetic Algorithm uses a method to solve an optimisation problem that is similar to what evolution does in nature. That concept is that the environment and competition for resources eliminates weak attributes and only the strongest attributes survive a particular generation (iteration); so, after a number of iterations we are left with optimal attributes (parameters) for a particular environment.
